loose ends

text-mex is moving to miami this fall. after several weeks of exchanging texts in attempts to coordinate a when i could pick up a couple things i had left at his apartment back in january, we finally managed to agree on dinner along with theng and kev at max's.

i'd been wanting to check out max's for some time now, won over by in vino's meatballs, excellent wine selection, and personable staff. upon entering max's, one immediately noticed the warmth (both in atmosphere and temperature) and coziness of the darkly lit, homestyle italian restaurant. long and narrow, the restaurant stretched back with a front and back dining space separated by the kitchen then small bar.

i arrived first and waited at the bar and nursed a glass of prosecco until text-mex arrived. shortly after theng and kev arrived. we were seated and purused the menu. i ordered the beet & avocado salad. kev ordered the gnocchi. theng the osso bucco. text-mex had the zucchini soup and meatloaf which essentially was one ginormous meatball. the salad was a surprisingly delicious contrast of flavors with the sweetness of the beets was offset by the creaminess of the avocado and goat cheese. theng's osso bucco was a tad salty and reminded me that while i always think i will like it, i never do. somehow the fattiness of lamb is not enjoyable the way well prepared pork belly can be. kev's gnocchi was tasty and extremely rich. the meatloaf was wonderful and an enormous amount of meat.

dinner was filled with light conversation and before i knew it two hours had past and i knew it was time to get home. i dropped everyone off.

at the end of the night, i was struck by how one's emotions, attachments, and life can change so much in a year's time. . . i've moved apartments, switched jobs, and started a new relationship.
